What is the PMP® exam?

The exam consists of multiple-choice questions. Only one out of the 4 answers suggested is correct.

  • Total duration: 4 hours
  • Time per question: 72 seconds
Where and how does the PMP® exam take place?
The assessment takes place at one of the many Pearson VUE® exam centres. Pearson VUE® is the testing agency for PMI®. These exam centres are available all over the world and you can choose the one closest to you. In France, there are around ten of them.
During the exam you are placed in a room and the exam is conducted on a computer, also called CBT (Computer Based Test).
Since April 2020, the PMI® has also provided the option of taking the exam online, on your personal computer, from home.
Which areas of knowledge are the PMP® exam questions divided into?

The PMP® exam questions are divided into the process groups described in the PMBOK® guide. This percentage varies according to the area in question.

How are the PMP® exam results presented?

The result is given immediately at the end of the test. The “PASS” or “FAIL” status is determined by the overall performance of your answers. The PMI® does not disclose the minimum number of correct answers to be reached and this varies from one questionnaire to the next. Your result sheet also tells you the level you obtained in the different subjects: according to knowledge areas for CAPM® certification and according to process groups for PMP® certification. This overall performance is composed of 4 levels:
