From TETRA to 5G: An Inevitable Transition

For decades, technologies such as TETRA have met the requirements of mission-critical communications through closed networks, push-to-talk, group calling, and emergency prioritization. These standards have proven their reliability across industries such as transportation, energy, and public safety.
However, their limitations are becoming increasingly apparent: limited data bandwidth, no native IoT support, rising maintenance costs, and incompatibility with emerging operational use cases. As a result, the transition to private 4G and 5G networks is no longer simply a technological choice—it has become an operational necessity.

Today, private 4G networks account for the majority of live production deployments, with a gradual migration path toward standalone 5G (5G SA). The long-term objective is to converge on a single infrastructure capable of supporting both mission-critical voice and data services through standardized technologies.
